Los Angeles, CA – January 11, 2025

A series of wildfires broke out in the outskirts of Los Angeles yesterday, fueled by strong winds and dry conditions, causing major concerns for residents and local authorities. While fire crews are actively working to contain the blazes, several areas have already been impacted, and evacuation orders have been issued for parts of the San Fernando Valley and nearby foothills.

The fires, which began late on January 10, have quickly spread over several acres of land due to the ongoing drought conditions in Southern California. As of today, more than 1,000 fire personnel are on the ground, battling the flames with the assistance of air tankers and helicopters.

“We are doing everything we can to control the spread of these fires, but the combination of strong winds and dry vegetation is making it very difficult,” said Captain Maria Lopez of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). “We urge residents in affected areas to follow evacuation orders immediately and stay alert for additional updates.”

As the fire continues to rage, air quality in parts of Los Angeles has been severely impacted, with thick smoke drifting across the city. Local health officials are advising individuals with respiratory conditions to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities.

The Los Angeles Office of Emergency Management has activated an emergency response plan and set up shelters for evacuees in safer areas. In addition, schools in the affected regions have canceled classes for the day to ensure student safety.

In response to the situation, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed concern over the growing threat and pledged to provide all necessary resources to fight the fires. “Our priority is to protect lives and property. We are coordinating closely with state and federal agencies to ensure a swift and effective response,” she said in a press conference this morning.

As the fire season continues, experts warn that the risk of wildfires remains high due to the ongoing drought conditions and climate change. Firefighters are expected to be in action for several more days as they work to fully contain the fires.

Residents in fire-prone areas are being urged to prepare their homes for potential evacuations and to stay informed by following local fire departments and emergency services.

For updates on the fire’s progress, evacuation orders, and air quality, residents can visit the LAFD website and the Los Angeles County emergency services page.
